It simply hadnβt registered - whatsoever!
π¨ 'We're constantly hearing how to identify Mental Health issues in others, but not learning how to help ourselves!'.
...was feedback after speaking at the CIMA CPD Academy about Mental Fitness: A two-hour interactive session of simple strategies for better brain (and body) function; a medley of Neuroscience, Psychology, Physiology and soft skills with bits of laughter at human quirks.
The oxygen mask analogy (the safety demo on a plane to put yours on before helping someone else) is one of my favourites. It applies.
But it's not being applied..... Apparently! π¦
I had no idea.
Yes, we want to help others.
π± But setting the example by helping ourselves - and then passing on principles and techniques (where intervention of a Mental Health/similar professional isn't necessary) cascades, and demonstrates care, quickly.
What Mental Health help should we offer at work?
π When people quickly realise how many tactics are applications of normal nuggets they know or know about already, then they apply them, share them and spread them. FAST!
π It's Neuroscience not rocket science, a bit of Biology-101, plus some common sense.
π It's not even note-taking - mostly just memorable 'try-and-go' tricks, lowering Cortisol (the stress hormone) and lifting brain and body-boosting neurotransmitters!
